Early Learning and Childcare Parent /Carer Survey-increase in hours.

As you are aware, the Children and Young Peoples Act (2014) requires local authorities to consult every two years on the provision of early learning and childcare.  We consulted two years ago with parents across Edinburgh on the implementation of 600 hours of early learning and childcare. Our nurseries now offer 600 hours to parents and families.

Recent announcements from the Scottish Government state an intention to increase hours available from 600 to 1140 hours for all 3 and 4 year olds and eligible two year olds by 2020. With this in mind, it seemed sensible to include this intention within our survey and to begin to capture the views of parents on how they would access these hours. This will help with future planning.

We have included some examples in the survey of how parents might use these additional hours. The examples given in the survey are possible ways that the hours could be offered in our nurseries.

Our expectation is that the majority of parents/carers will complete the survey on line but we have also attached a paper copy of the survey for any parents/carers to complete who don’t have access to the internet. The closing date for the survey is Friday, the 29th of April.

The link to the online version of the survey is:

For those without access to the internet, please download the PDF version of the survey by clicking this link – Survey 2016-final copy 21.3.16

If there are any parents or carers where English is their second language and they require the letter or survey to be translated, the manager of the ELCC establishment can contact the interpretation and translation service and request an interpreter.
